On Marriage

This too is an uncharted territory for the silly prophet. Yet, the silly prophet ventures into it to present to you some facts he's found. Hmm! where do I start? Let me start with some of the non-dictionary meanings of marriage.

Marriage - one of the best things that could happen to you (not necessarily applicable for men), it happens (a not so interesting but, inevitable eventuality), EOL (end of life if you consider being single as being alive), a lifetime of joy (only for people who know how to share a TV), crap (crap).

There are two prime time ways of getting married, atleast in the Indian context - the arranged and the love marriages. Though, the post marriage life ends up being similar in both cases, there's a hell lot of difference in the actual ritual itself ...

(Oh! Did the silly prophet mention that he's been inpired by Vikram Seth and the likes recently?)

Both the bride and groom are too young of age,
you can almost be sure it's an arranged marriage.

There's festive atmosphere everywhere,
there's groups of people chatting here and there.

The bride's dreaming of the moon to be shown by the honey
while the honey is thinking of the bridal property and money. :)

Both of them know they are taking a chance,
but, they intend to do a lifetime's dance.

The love marriage too has it's share of dancing,
atleast, there is no bride groom's prancing.

Both parties come in with a vow,
to share life and not to swerve.

Fall in Love or let someone arrange,
life's about to derange. :)

Think through issues to a finish,
past troubles are the moments you will cherish.

Consider yourself very lucky once you take a stance,
for, not all get to do the hearty dance,
not all are willing to take a chance.

The Prophet

"The Prophet" is a masterpiece by the grand master Khalil Gibran himself. The book is all about the preachings of "The Prophet" before he sets sail to his mother land after a 12 year stay in a foreign land. Unlike "The Prophet" I don't need to sail back to my homeland 'coz I have stayed home all 24 years of my cozy life but, I sure would like to attempt putting my thoughts out in a humorous vein on the same topics which "The Prophet" chose. I won't care too much if the blog does not turn out great. For those of you who are already thinking "What's the point?" - the point is absolute freedom of expression and I am loving it now a days. Like with my other articles, I hereby request all the linguists, grammarians and proof readers of the world to buzz off right away 'coz I know my spelling is bad and I know the punctuation is bad too and there is nothing I am willing to do to make it better at this point in time. Rest of the guys, read on ...

On Love

There she stood in the doorway
like an angel clad in white she was.

She talked of good and she talked of bad
and I knew how smart she was.

She lit up my days with her warmth and smiles
and I noticed how beautiful she was.

But, not until the day she got out of sight
did I realize how deeply in love I was.

When in Love people write crazy stuff like that all the time. Even Mr. Fred Flintstone eulogized Wilma's eyes by comparing them to frying pans. "Eyes as black as frying pans" he said and that's it now he's stuck with the same one for life (or should I say shelf life!?). :) Anyways I am not "frunk" so this blog might prove bearable to more audience than my "frunken tawk" series. I am not making any promises though. If you ask me I think it will be like the "Family Section" in a Hyderabadi Biryani joint - almost as bad but, it's "family". As much sweat on the waiter, as stuffy an atmosphere and as bad a Biryani but, it's "family section".

Anyways back to the topic at hand, Love. I hardly know anything about it but, I have assumed the role of Mr. Silly Little Prophet and since I am awkwardly caught up on stage with people in front of me eagerly waiting for me to speak while all I have to say is "Howdy?", I will present to you few facts about love today as I have seen it. Love is like an epidemic now a days. They say it's in the air. There's too many people falling in and out of love everyday. Also, there is a substantial number of people trying to fall in love all the time while all they every seem to do is fall off their own two feet. All these people together have created great demand for stuff like flowers, greeting cards, coffee shops, restaurants, pubs, make up kits, tissue papers, hair dyes, designer clothes, alcohol, etc, etc. It's as if this stuff is feeding the whole god damn economy of the country. Although I would love to state the ironic fact that condom companies are the only ones not getting enough share of the "love" market, I won't. This is a "family section" remember? So as I was saying, unlike in the old days when people thought Love was supposed to be about giving, selflessness and blah and blah, Love now a days is funky, young, expressive, spicy, intense, violent, hot, hep, sexy, silly, sensitive, figurative, animate and I could go on and on and on. There is a whole variety out there to choose from. And if you are the kind who is too much of a chicken shit or a lazy ass to experiment with any of these, we have something for you as well, one exclusive stall booked just for you in the "watch but don't touch" corner of the stadium. At the same time there is also a penalty box callled "Prison" for those "over performers" who think just because they are in the field they can bust anybody's balls.
Hmm! The scene is rapidly changing in India too. Years of orthodoxy has traditionally restricted the scope and possibilities of love. But, with changing times I see a rapid change in the attitude of the people too. There is a huge spectrum of people now in India who understand the mental, emotional, physical and psychological aspects/facets of love and are willing to take the plunge. I think it's a very positive sign for our continuous growth struggle to become a "developed" nation. Actually now that I come to think of it we are a developed nation just that we are a little short on cash. I mean think about it, we had the zero all along and we even had the wisdom and maturity to create and implement the "Kama Sutra" while others were still solving the mysteries of the loin cloth. Anyways, Bravo India! and I think I will save the rest for a day when I do a piece on patriotism.

In conclusion, love is good. In fact it's great. Just that finding your flavour can be a real pain in the neck and if you are one of those lucky one's who's got it all - "Play Safe" :)
